How to play
- Open with Frostbolt from max range: it slows and can trigger Frostbite or Fingers of Frost.
- When the target is frozen (Frost Nova or Frostbite) or you have Fingers of Frost, spend Ice Lance: it deals 300% more damage to frozen targets.
- Against melee: Frost Nova, walk away and go back to Frostbolt. Save Blink for their second approach.
- Against casters: save Counterspell for their key spell (a heal, a fear or Polymorph) and use pillars and corners to break line of sight.
- Cold Snap after spending Ice Block and Frost Nova gives you a second round of defenses, but it takes 10 minutes: save it for the duel that decides the series.
Strengths
- Fingers of Frost in every duel and Cold Snap for the deciding fight.
- Permafrost makes your slows last longer: more casting time against melee.
Weaknesses
- Needs 10 of your 16 Legacy points in the Adventure tree (Well Rested 5/5 and Talented 5/5).
- Cold Snap only counts once per series, because cooldowns do not reset between duels.
Items and consumables
- Healing and mana potions, and First Aid bandages: the tournament allows consumables except those on its ban list.
- A wand to finish targets without spending mana.

How to read a build
- Use: what it is for (leveling, AoE farming, dungeons, raid, PvP or duels). A build can cover several uses.
- Point split: “0 / 0 / 21” means the points in Arcane, Fire and Frost, in that order.
- Legacy: if the build uses the Talented Legacy perk, a tag says so. Talented gives talent points earlier (up to 5 more before level 60) and is paid for with Legacy points. Community: Published by the community or press; we have not read the official original.
- Calculator view: expand a build to see each tree as in game. The ★ star marks milestone talents. Hover (or tap) a talent to see its card.
- Status: “Analysis” means we reasoned it from the published mechanics but have not tested it in game yet. Once tested, it becomes “Tested in game”. Analysis: Our reading of official mechanics. Not tested in game.
- Made for: the game version it was made for. If Blizzard changes a talent, we review the build and log it in the changelog.
Why we explain every build
A list of points is not enough to play well. Every build says what it is for, how to play it step by step, what it does well and what it does badly. When the situation calls for it, like the level 30 duel tournament, it also gets an in-depth guide with matchups, race and consumables.
We do not publish builds we have copied without understanding them, nor builds based on Retail or Classic numbers: if something is not known yet, we say so.
The talent calculator
Every build opens in the Wowhead Forever talent calculator, where you can change points and save your own version. We also use it for each talent’s position in the tree. Its tooltips and numbers come from the beta client: they are a hint, not a confirmed fact. Community: Published by the community or press; we have not read the official original.
Remember how talents work in Forever: 1 point per level from 10, each row needs 5 more points in its tree, and there are milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. More about talents.
